INDICATION
Prescription strength Nexium is a medication used to treat heartburn and acid reflux (heartburn that is too much or too little acid).
This medication works by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces and thus reducing the amount of acid your esophagus produces. It is a combination of two medicines:
Nexium 40 mg (the active ingredient in Nexium, a brand name for esomeprazole magnesium) and Nexium 20 mg (the active ingredient in Prilosec, a brand name for Prilosec acid). Nexium 40 mg is a prescription strength drug and Prilosec is an over-the-counter version.
Nexium is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is used to reduce the amount of stomach acid that you produce when you eat. It may also be used to treat symptoms of acid reflux, such as difficulty swallowing, heartburn, sour throat, or upset stomach. Nexium is a prescription strength drug and Prilosec is an over-the-counter version.

Under the Act, a drug has to be prescribed only by doctors who have a legitimate medical interest. It must not be used by patients who are taking any form of drug, including medicines, and must not be bought or sold by people without the prescription of a doctor.
AstraZeneca said: ‘The ministry of health has decided to revoke the suspension of Nexium for two years. We are pleased with the action taken.’
